Becoming A Leader Without Followers

Becoming A Leader Without Followers

What is The Quiet Leader?

The Quiet Leader is a new philosophy — a radical reinterpretation of leadership. This philosophy poses a unique question:

“Is it possible to be a leader without followers?”

Our collective reaction would initially dictate that it is impossible, or at least a contradictory notion. for one to be considered a “leader” without followers. Who, or what, is the leader “leading”? That is, unless we change the way we reinterpret “leadership.”

Giving distance to our collective, assumed societal understandings of “leadership” and the tendency to associate influential leadership as being necessarily dependent upon money and power, The Quiet Leader intends to set forth a thorough reinterpretation of leadership with the intent of inspiring ordinary men and women to exert a unique form of “quiet” leadership in their everyday lives.

If we change the way we think of leadership by shifting focus to an intimate and personal focus on how people “lead” their everyday lives, and on common interactions with others around them, we can alter the very fabric of what it means to be a leader.

What are our collective assumptions about leadership?

Our societal understanding of leadership is an assumed association between effective, influential leadership and it being necessarily intertwined with money and power.  These function as measures or tools that prove to the rest of us that one has some legitimate claim to being followed or listened to by the rest of us.

However, conventional leaders thus become dependent upon the money, power, or political position that gives them this claim to legitimacy. For, when a traditional leader loses the money, power, or position that distinguishes them as a leader, they lose their status as a leader, and thus, lose their influence. They lose their ability to lead.

How does The Quiet Leader differ?

Leaders both political and corporate rise and fall. They age and die. But this new form of quiet leadership does not depend on followers or financial backing.

Quiet leaders do not depend on money and power — limited and finite sources of leadership and influence. As such, a quiet leader is unhindered and unrestricted in his or her ability to lead.

Instead, The Quiet Leader depends exclusively on the positive, optimistic influence that one exerts in everyday life. With little more than an inherently positive attitude, an optimistic nature, and by way of routinely doing good deeds for others, a quiet leader undertakes a philosophy of leading by example with the intent of influencing others to emulate the quiet leader’s selfless nature.

Those who are routinely touched by a quiet leader’s charitable, optimistic, and compassionate nature are — consciously or subconsciously — influenced to undertake similar behavior. They, in essence, become “followers.” Followers of a quiet leader then reap similar a similar positive effect in their social circles and by way of commonplace interactions in everyday life.

Thus, the magnitude of a quiet leader’s influence can, theoretically, be felt indefinitely.

What is the potential impact of the philosophy behind The Quiet Leader?

A new interpretation of leadership — one grounded in selfless giving, charity, positive energy and optimism, and as exercised by ordinary men and women in their everyday lives — can influence similar behavior in others and reap radical changes in one’s family, among friends and in social circles, and truly throughout greater society.

Why is this philosophy called, “The Quiet Leader” ?

The future book’s title, The Quiet Leader, represents a new interpretation of leadership and its selfless nature: that one’s energy and ordinary interactions with others speak louder than mere hollow words; that tireless selflessness and focused positivity can influence good deeds in others.

To some, the idea of a “leader without followers” might seem completely contradictory. This is, again, because of our ingrained, assumed conceptions behind what it means to be a real, effective and influential leader. Thus, the title serves to explain the nature of the book and challenge our collective perception of leadership.

Upon what foundation is The Quiet Leader built?

The philosophy behind The Quiet Leader is built upon a foundation of charity, giving, selflessness, positive thinking, optimism, love, compassion, and truly, the American Dream.  If we can divorce ourselves from the collectively ingrained notion that influential and effective leadership depends on power and money, we can slowly begin to reinterpret who in our society are the individuals that we wish and hope to have lead us.

Why is The Quiet Leader relevant to America, today?

During these days of financial and political crisis, as confidence in our political and economic systems wane, as Approval Ratings for economic and political leaders drop off the scale, and as America’s “way of life” is perpetually called into question, The Quiet Leader is an especially pertinent topic for discussion and debate.

My, my….I like this idea, but I doubt I would buy your book, if not simply because I completely understand what you're saying and from personal experience, a book would probably just confuse me to a point where I DON'T understand anymore…But good job

Also, I'm looking forward to the challenge to proving that the concept of quiet leadership goes much further and deeper than we how understand it on the surface

That's actually quite a legitimate concern. I feel that many authors unintentionally butcher their books' intended purpose with poor writing, poor structure, etc.

The purpose of this website is to assist the development of these ideas and this philosophy on leadership.

Thanks to your input, I'll work even harder to ensure that the books' structure and the philosophy behind it compliments peoples' natural understanding of being a quiet leader. Also, I'm looking forward to the challenge to proving that the concept of quiet leadership goes much further and deeper than we how understand it on the surface

Thanks for the comment and compliment!! :)
