The Quiet Leader Tree — the book’s logo — is not only representative of the ideals and nature behind the book’s philosophy. It’s four separate segments and interlocking center also represent the four part process in the book.
The process intends to help the reader systematically regain his or her understanding of leadership.
When that is accomplished, that new found understanding can be applied, through votes, to the realm of modern American politics.
The process, as indicated by the image above, is counter-clockwise.
This “backwards” method has significant intentions — in THE QUIET LEADER, we first examine the (actual or perceived) problems with modern American politics before stepping back to reclaim our understanding of leadership, and then proceed to complete the counter-clockwise circle by applying a new found understanding of leadership to politics again.
Beginning at the Top
“The Leadership Problem” is at the top of the tree and represents the first step in our examination of the highest, most recognized, perhaps most important element of representative leadership in our society.
After we examine the leadership problem, we will step back to examine and recall what leadership really means, what leadership is, and why its important. This step is intended to allow the reader to step away from our ingrained, assumed, societal interpretation of what it means to be a leader today — all those associations with status, power, money, followers, etc.
The next step back is when The Philosophy behind THE QUIET LEADER is introduced. Having now distanced ourselves from modern American politics, now at the bottom of the Tree, we aim to reclaim our understanding of leadership by discussing the philosophy behind THE QUIET LEADER and the notion that one can be an influential leader without followers in everyday life.
First Step Forward
The next step is a step forward.
We put the philosophy into Practice. We begin to emulating the philosophy of behind THE QUIET LEADER, one of perpetual optimism, inherent positivity and selfless giving. We explore forms and methods of giving, and discuss the effects that we intend to sow with our quiet actions — and those that we explicitly intend to not sow.
Completing the Circle
The final step in the process is an important step forward. We complete the circle by applying our new found sense of leadership to the highest, most important element of leadership –- to politics.
Completing the circle means that, as quiet leaders, we can, through our votes, elect the types of moral, upstanding, incorruptible leaders that we idealize and wish to see represent our interests in the political sphere.
